Tips for Working from Home

Updated: May 7, 2020

How crazy is this coronavirus? Who would have ever thought that we were going to end up working from home for an extended period of time? Well Barb is taking on a lot of the small business day to day tasks, Marc has always dreamed of working from home. While trying to navigate everything closed, and having a broken arm, is not ideal for a trial run for this whole “work from home” thing, she’s figuring it out as it comes.

We compiled a list of a few tips we have while you adjust to working from home —

  1. Move every hour — Stand up and stretch, refill your water, rotate laundry, let your dogs out, take a lap around the house, or something just to move your body and change your perspective for a few minutes

  2. Set up an office — as much as we would all like to pretend that we could work from our bed all day, I’m here to tell you that if you try to work from the couch, you will end up taking a nap more times than you intended to. Find a corner in a bedroom or clear off the dining room table that you rarely use and set up your computer & the things that you need to get work done. Sit there only when you are working, and leave when you are done

  3. Treat the day like a work day — spend your regular working hours doing work. Take a real lunch break like you usually would. Stop when the work day is done and switch to wife/mom/dog mom mode

  4. Set a MUST DO list & get that done — There are things that you have to do each day at work. Write down those 3 to 5 things and make sure that you get those done that day. If you get through all of those, do a few bonus things if you still have time. But don’t make a never ending to do list that will overwhelm you & discourage you when you still have 10+ todos at the end of the day

  5. Cut yourself some slack — this is New. This is different. This is a change. You’re not gonna figure it all out on day one, and maybe not even by day five. But eventually, you’ll be killing it. But until then, give yourself Grace and when you get distracted by your phone, or your kids, or Netflix, or your pups, just get back on track & finish those nonnegotiable tasks

Well, that’s all we got for you today! If you have any advice to share with our readers, we’d love to hear it in the comments ❤️

Xoxo,

Marc & Barb
